Larry Amburgey, born July 16th, 1950, passed away peacefully on March 15th 2024 at Advent Memorial Hospital in Manchester after enduring long-term illness. He was born in Jenkins, Kentucky to Mae and Ottis Amburgey. He is preceded in death by his parents and eldest brother, Greg Amburgey.
His surviving relatives include 2 brothers, Phil (Jill) Amburgey and Jay (Tina) Amburgey. Larry had two children, Tanya Layne (Jeff) and Michael Amburgey (Jessica). Larry also had two stepchildren he adored, Henrietta Hensley and Casey Breeding. He had 5 grandchildren, Alex Layne, Clay Layne, Abigail Layne, Lexus Amburgey and Kyle Amburgey. He had two great-grandchildren, Carolina and Jaxon Layne.
Larry worked at Caudill Lumber Company, a family owned business in Whitesburg. He was a selfless caregiver for his mother, Mae C. Amburgey. He loved Nascar, the Kentucky Wildcats, and was proud of his service in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Honorary Member of the VFW. He was looking forward to living at the VA Center in Hazard, but his stay there was shortened due to his health.
Larry had a close relationship with cousins David and Linda Setzer, who lovingly supported him through his time of illness. The family and close friends are invited to a graveside ceremony on Sat. March 23, at 11 a.m. at Combs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would love donations to be made to the Eastern KY Veterans Center in Hazard, KY in Larry’s honor.
